Create a Kitchen with function & elegance
As the busiest room in the house, the kitchen needs to be functional but that doesn’t have to come at the cost of style. Even if you have a large family or are a messy home cook, a kitchen renovation can seamlessly blend style and practicality to give you the best of both worlds.
Here are five design tips from us at Helsby Construction Group, to create an elegantly functional kitchen.
Marble to timber, stainless steel to concrete; any of these commonly used materials can look great when combined with the right aesthetic and are also hard-wearing which is what you’re after when looking at choosing a bench top.
The kitchen bench is where the majority of the magic happens in the kitchen, and you need a sturdy and practical surface for all that chopping and rolling, kneading and mixing. This is not the place to choose materials which have not been proven to stand the test of time.
One new trend we’ve seen emerging are resin benchtops. Resin allows for a more
interesting aesthetic without compromising on it being hard-wearing.
A show-stopping splashback
Aside from splashes and sprays, your kitchen splashback will not experience heavy wear-and-tear, making it the perfect place to make a statement. Add some intrigue and elegance to your kitchen with a splashback made of etched glass, patterned tiles, or dark stone.
A good way to create a statement piece with your splashback is to use soft and natural colours to either side, to make sure any colour used make the splashback really pop.
Consider a scullery
If you have space, a scullery is one of the best ways to keep your kitchen tidy and in order.
Sculleries are also the perfect place to keep items that can clutter up your kitchen like kettles, toasters and mugs, and subsequently result in a kitchen space that looks a lot more purposeful and planned (with the added bonus of moving dishes out of the way to keep your kitchen looking great whilst entertaining)
If space doesn’t allow for a scullery directly adjacent, consider some more creative ways of adding more storage to the main kitchen area, through drawers and cupboards hidden strategically or up higher where the space may traditionally be unused.
Flooring favours the bold
Your flooring is limited only by your imagination. If you’ve played it safe and classic for most of the design elements in your kitchen, the space underneath your feet is your chance to be bold.
Choose a hardy material like luxury vinyl tiles that come in bold patterns or colours while offering water-resistance and durability. Tiles are also always a great, luxurious looking, and hard-wearing material, and the options in terms of finishes and patterns are endless!
If you’re after elegance, there are few purchases as effective as a hidden rangehood. Instead of the typically big and bulky rangehoods, options like built-in, slimline or slot-in rangehoods are integrated more seamlessly, bringing a minimalist touch to your kitchen renovation.
